Etymologically, the name Jesus comes from the Hebrew “Yehôshua” and means “the Lord is Salvation” or “Yahweh is salvation”. The name was transliterated from the Hebrew “Yehôshua” to the Greek “Iesous” and from the shortened form in Hebrew “Yeshua`” to Jesus.
