What are chakras?

The chakras and their meaning. At some point you may have heard the term chakras, mentioned in relation to certain poses or practices. Chakras meaning: In Sanskrit, the word chakra means “wheel” or “circle”, and is a concept historically associated with ancient India, as well as Tibetan Buddhism and other religions.

It is common to think of chakras as the places in the body where energy is concentrated. Chakras are centers of a life force, so to speak, and are enhanced by our breathing, positive thoughts, healthy eating, and exercise, to name a few. This life force, or this energy in our body, responds to positive things.

Just as your energy can flow freely due to different external forces, for example being stressed or lack of sleep, the chakras can also be affected by things like lifestyle habits and emotions. This is because the chakras are intertwined with the mental, emotional and spiritual parts of your body.

chakra alignment

There are many ways you can try to balance and align the 7 chakras. The methods people use are usually based on personal preferences. For example, if you are a yoga enthusiast, you will most likely be interested in incorporating chakra balancing into your yoga practice. Or, if you are interested in nutrition, you may decide to heal the subtle body with food. Remember that it is not complicated to align chakras.

We invite you to try some of the following ways to align your body chakras and achieve the perfect balance:

  • Yoga postures: It is believed that specific yoga postures can stimulate each chakra, removing blockages and promoting the free flow of life force to aid in healing.
  • Food: All chakras have an associated color, which matches the frequency of that energy center. Therefore, some people believe that eating foods of the same color and frequency is beneficial for the chakra system.
  • Crystals– Each crystal has specific qualities and many match the qualities of a particular chakra. If a crystal or stone has the same attributes and color as an energy center, it is believed to have the power to heal or open it.
  • Mantras or affirmations: You can use your voice to align your chakras in two ways. Firstly, all chakras have an associated Bija (seed) mantra, a Sanskrit word that you can chant. Alternatively, you can speak positive affirmations using the qualities of that energy center.
  • Healing with sound and frequencies– An easy way to work on your chakras is to listen to sound healing music tuned to the frequency of the chakra you want to heal.
  • Mudras (hand gestures): a specific hand gesture (mudra in Sanskrit) that is said to evoke the energy of a chakra. There are associated mudras for each of the seven chakras that you can use while meditating.
  • Breathing– One of the best ways to promote free-flowing energy in the seven main chakras is with pranayama breathing techniques. Deep breathing, as in Nadi Shodhana, is known to cleanse the Nadis, part of the energy body.
  • Reiki– Reiki practitioners work with the energy in your body and can detect any blockages and heal them using their hands and sometimes adding crystals.
  • Visualization Meditation: You can work the chakras through meditation using different techniques. The most popular is to visualize the color and energy at the location of the physical chakra, according to the following chart:
