Lap (Heb. bigdô, jôtsen; Gr. kólpos). In Pro 16:33, 2Ki 4:39 (“skirt”), and Neh 5:13 (“garment”), the Hebrew terms designate folds or parts of clothing anciently used as containers. In 2Ki 4:20 “knees” are spoken of directly, as in Rth 4:16; 1Ki 17:19; etc. the gr. kólpos in Luk 6:38, translated as “lap”, should also be understood as a fold of clothing used as a container.
