How to be a true worshiper of God
From the beginning, the Lord formed us with the purpose that we be true worshipers, so worship should always be a natural part of our lives.
When the fall occurred we were separated from God. With Adam and Eve, the nature of our worship likewise fell, so we could not connect with Our Father in an intimate and total way.
But when we align in our heart, soul, and spirit, and obey God’s will, we are preparing ourselves to be a true worshiper. In this way, the impact that our worship exerts corresponds to our communion with God, how we dedicate our time to him.
Currently we prioritize other material things because they are part of our needs, but when we are true worshipers, we understand that we must first seek God and his kingdom and then through our devotion and worship glorify his name.
“The woman said to him: Lord, it seems to me that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you say that Jerusalem is the place where one should worship. Jesus said to her: Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You adore what you do not know; we adore what we know; because salvation comes from the Jews” (John 4:19-22
In this sense, we must worship only him, the creator of heaven and earth, who created us in his image and likeness and gave his only son as a perfect sacrifice so that we could be justified before him.
In this way, if we do not give our lives to God and let what is carnal in us die, worship will be in vain, just as the word says: “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, on the things of the Spirit” (Romans 8:5)
Characteristics of a true worshiper
The Bible is the only book that reveals to us the truth of our God, and the one that can inspire and encourage us when we have any difficulties in life. Through it we can know God and his purpose for us and despite the fact that at times we may feel uncertainty, he gives us the wisdom to understand his word.
In this way we can maintain communion with Our Father. In addition, prayer must be part of a true worshipper, since it is the means by which we can speak directly with him and seek his face every day. Without the word and without prayer, we will not be able to feel the connection with the spiritual.
In the Bible we also find the divine inspiration of God that gives us courage to continue our life with joy. He shows us the true path to follow that despite being narrow, gives us the peace that surpasses all understanding.
In this sense, the holy scriptures is the only book that can give us the true wisdom that comes from above, it also provides hope and blessing to our home. It assures us access to eternal life if we do God’s will, since people who obey the word become true worshipers full of God’s presence.
It is important to highlight that there are different fundamental characteristics that shape the heart of a worshiper, and these allow us to enjoy everything that Jesus Christ conquered on the Cross of Calvary. Among these characteristics we find the following: “Beloved, if our hearts do not rebuke us, we have confidence in God” (1 John 3:21)
1.- The true worshiper has a sincere heart
When we talk about having a sincere heart, we think in different terms that define it, such as commitment, loyalty, commitment, among others. In this way, the Lord wants the true worshiper to have a heart worthy of him, to be sincere and not to be carried away by religiosity.
As revealed in his word: “Let us approach with a sincere heart, in full certainty of faith, hearts purified from an evil conscience, and bodies washed with pure water” (Hebrews 10:22)
In this way, God expects us to give all control of what we are to his sovereignty, for which we must see what is in our hearts so that he cleanses us of all sin and removes everything bad from us, since the Lord search the hearts and know everything about us:
“I am the Lord, who searches the mind, who tests the heart, to give to each according to his way, according to the fruit of his works” (Jeremiah 17:10)
In this sense, we must be honest with the Lord and not try to hide anything from him because he knows everything about us, and observes the willingness we have to change our bad habits in order to be better people and better worshipers, where we give all the glory to God.
2.- He has an unshakable faith
We cannot please God if we do not have faith, so it is essential that as worshipers we can trust God and in the things that he can do in our life we put our lives in his hands, since Christ is that path that we must walk, to be in the light and not in the darkness. As his word reveals:
“Therefore I esteemed all your commandments above all things to be right, and I hated every false way.” (Psalms 119:128)
3.- He has a purified heart
One of the weapons the enemy uses when he wants to attack us and weaken our faith is guilt for our past sins. For which we must constantly sincerely repent to be clean when this enemy tries to intimidate us and take away our strength:
The true worshiper must understand that he is not perfect, but that he can strengthen his relationship with God through prayer and reading the word, since they are powerful weapons to overcome fear and a sense of guilt.

If, on the contrary, we want to obtain glory and fill ourselves with self-centeredness and arrogance, we will be a target for our adversary and we can fall more easily.
We must not underestimate the enemy, keeping our hearts pure as our Lord Jesus Christ did on earth, despite going through such a painful death on the cross of Calvary. In this way we are justified by the blood of the lamb that was immolated for our sins: “For much more, being already justified in his blood, by him we will be saved from wrath” (Romans 5:9)
In this sense, we must stop feeling guilty and remember that through the divine covenant we are saved and justified through Jesus Christ when he was sacrificed: “Now therefore there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1)
On the other hand, the true worshiper must maintain a communion with God and repent of all his sins, since only being clean can we worship him in spirit and in truth: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9)
4.- The true worshiper gives value to God
To be a true worshiper we must give God the value he deserves and put him as a priority in our lives. So we must never think that what we are doing for God does not have an impact on others.
The value of being worshipers goes beyond ourselves. The more we value God, the more firm we will be in our convictions and we will know that he deserves all the glory and all the honor.
Jesus Christ paid with his blood for our sins and it is something that has an incomparable value. Therefore, we must in return give him our lives so that he shapes us, guides us, helps us at all times to cope with the adversities that present us in life.
In the same way, we must give value to ourselves, since we are the creation of God and offer our bodies in holiness, keeping ourselves pure and worthy of him. As his word reveals:
“Therefore, brothers, I beg you by the mercies of God to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your rational service.” (Romans 12:1)
In this sense, our value can lead them to have deeper levels with God, where we really know him and the purpose he has in our lives.
So the more value we give to God, the more powerful our lives will be as worshipers of the Lord, respecting and honoring him every day, and thus our worship will have more meaning.
On the other hand, our worship must be measured by the value we give to God, and not by the value we give to material goods and things of the world. For which we must live in righteousness, always seeking spirituality and contact with our God, leaving aside the earthly. As his word expresses it:
“The woman said to him: Lord, it seems to me that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you say that Jerusalem is the place where one should worship. Jesus said to her: Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You adore what you do not know; we adore what we know; because salvation comes from the Jews” (John 12:1-8)
5.- The true worshiper consecrates his body
To be a true worshiper we must preserve our bodies in holiness, since we are the temple and dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. Many times we expose our body and do not give it the care it deserves, and that does not please the Lord, since we are an instrument of blessing and worship.
Therefore God wants us to consecrate him with holy bodies and worthy of his glory. So we must separate ourselves from the things of the world and show ourselves as true children of God.
Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary we can cancel all acts of decrees where in him we did bad deeds, and we committed excesses. We have the opportunity to cleanse ourselves through the blood of Christ and consecrate our body, abilities, talents only to him, serving only him. In this regard, his word exhorts us as follows:
“All things are lawful for me, but not all are convenient; All things are lawful for me, but I will not let myself be dominated by any.” (1 Corinthians 6:12)
