Since my strength and my song represent a unique pair of words, some think that the word translated as song would mean “power, verve,” or something of the sort. However, the idea that is expressed in this way is wonderful: God is my powerful song. That is, a person of faith may consider the living and omnipotent God to be a reason to sing! my salvation: the verb save and its nouns are closely related to the idea of space and place (Exo 13:14). With the terrifying sea before them and the Egyptian pursuers behind, they were trapped. Even God surprised them with his rescue! In (Ps 118:14; Isaiah 12:2) the words of the middle of this verse are quoted.
and I will praise him: There are many words of praise in the Bible. But the Hebrew verb used here (nawâ) is unique; and it means “to bring beauty to God.” Through the sacrifice of praise (Hebrews 13:15), people of all ages can bring beauty to the one who created all that is beautiful.
God is my father: The Israelites worshiped the same God that Abraham (their father) worshipped, believed, and obeyed. Today, Christians are part of the line of Abraham because they also believe, obey, and worship the same God (Gal 3:6-7). Throughout history, many faithful believers have gone before us.
