Characteristics of the spirit of Jezebel according to the Bible

The characteristics of the spirit of Jezebel according to the Bible indicate that it is a seductive spirit of a queen of ancient Israel. The story tells that King Ahab was besieged by the spirit of Jezebel, and for this support was given to paganism and led to allowing temples dedicated to the Baals in Israel.

I invite you to read:

In the book of Revelation Jesus mentions this spirit: “But I have a few things against you: that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, teaches and seduces my servants to fornicate and eat things sacrificed to idols” (Revelation 2: 20)

This quote refers to Jezebel, who was an evil woman, whose influence led the people to tolerate evil, causing her false teachings to mislead people, since her only motive was to satisfy their desires.

The Bible teaches us that this woman did not care about justice, only doing evil: “If the end is what I want, the cost or who suffers does not matter” (1 Kings 21:15). This can be seen when he ordered Naboth to be killed in order to appropriate his vineyard. She always pretended to be the center of attention and that’s why she liked to show herself off, and she did it even at the trial as a way of making herself noticed in front of others:

“Afterward Jehu came to Jezreel; And when Jezebel heard it, she painted her eyes with antimony, and adorned her head, and leaned out of a window.” (2 Kings 9:30).

Characteristics of the spirit of Jezebel according to the Bible

In order to detect this evil spirit in our lives and in our churches, we must know its meaning and have knowledge about its characteristics and the consequences that it can cause us, since by allowing ourselves to be carried away by its evil, we can dishonor the name of Christ. Which keeps us from the path of salvation.

In this sense, Jezebel means “without cohabitation” and refers to a spirit that moves from one place to another, and from one generation to another. To detect the characteristics of this type of spirit we must identify the following aspects:

1.- Prophecy as manipulation

The spirit of Jezebel uses prophecy as a method to manipulate and pretend that they have that gift to achieve their hidden purposes, which revolve around control and manipulation within the churches, and even in their family environment.

2.- Having the power of the church

This type of person seeks to establish a relationship with the leaders to seize positions that allow them to have authority in the church, and in this way, spoil the work of God, since they seek personal approval for their vainglory. They desire total dominance and do not accept opinions from others that go against their evil purposes.

Many times we think that these things cannot happen in the church, since the Lord is praised and adored there. But certainly there is an enemy who seeks to impede God’s divine purpose at all costs, and uses vulnerable people in faith for this reason.

Therefore we must be in constant communion with God, ask for his direction and nourish ourselves with the word, since it is the food that will allow us to be strengthened before any spirit that comes to disturb us.

If we are protected by the weapons of Christ, no Jezebel spirit will be able to harm us or manipulate us. But we must also review ourselves and see what we are doing wrong within the churches, since sometimes we become weak because we are simply human. In this regard, the word comforts us:

“That is why I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, privations, persecutions and anguish for the love of Christ; Because when I’m weak, then I’m strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:10)

3.- They seek to influence others

These types of people with the well-rooted Jezebel spirit always seek to have a negative influence on others, seeking to win over everyone, both leaders and people in general. They do this as a strategy to influence and manipulate others. They always want to impose their ideas and do what they say.

4.- They appear to have spiritual gifts

These types of people always seek to be spiritual and talk about their gifts. They seek recognition and manipulate things to achieve their purposes. They can seek to interpret dreams, have visions but these are deceptive because they come from their imagination.

You can read:

Therefore, the Bible urges us to be attentive to the spirits that want to confuse us: “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not of God.” (1 John 4:1-3)

In this sense, not everyone who claims to be a child of God and who prophesies really comes from the Holy Spirit. For this reason we must ask God for the gift of discernment so that no spirit can deceive us. This is how we prevent the spirit of Jezebel from taking over us and taking us away from our Heavenly Father. Let’s not pretend to be perfect or let vanity take over us and manipulate us, let’s not give entry to the devil.

5.- They show false humility

Humility is one of the characteristics that every Christian should have, but this is difficult, since the world in which we live is full of falsehoods and vanity. However, if we go hand in hand with Christ, we will prevent the spirit of Jezebel from making us false people without humility.

So we can detect this evil spirit when a person is not humble but pretends to be. Churches today have leaders who proclaim humility but always want to impose themselves in their actions and consider that they have absolute control of everything.

They allow themselves to be carried away by their ego and isolate themselves from the true meaning of being children of God, of being the image and likeness of Christ, who was a living example of humility, love and meekness. As seen in his word:

“Come to me, all of you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your souls; For my yoke it is easy, and my burden light” (Matthew 11:28-30)

6.- There is no presence of the Holy Spirit

When a person lets himself be carried away by the spirit of Jezebel, there is no longer a spiritual communion with God, for which reason he moves away from the Holy Spirit and his relationship with the Lord is empty, giving entrance to evil spirits and demons.

7.- They are false teachers

We must be careful with false teachers, those who allow themselves to be influenced by the spirit of Jezebel, confusing others with teachings that are not from God, distorting the word and issuing judgments about the will of God, in order to spoil the purpose of Christ.

As the word warns: “Because, speaking arrogant words of vanity. They seduce by the sensual passions of the flesh those who barely escaped from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves to corruption.” (2 Peter 2: 18-19”

8.- They exalt themselves

One of the characteristics of the Jezebel spirit is self-promotion and self-exacerbation, which can be seen today in churches, where everyone wants recognition but there is no genuine brokenness.

In this sense, there is a current liberal tendency that promotes tolerance, based on the fact that God loves us and on free will. But a good Father is not the one who lets you do what you want, but the one who educates you with love and teaches you the right path to follow.

So do not get carried away by the spirit of Jezebel and fill yourself with the Holy Spirit because the final days are coming and we must take care of the salvation that is a gift from God for his children. The best way to get rid of this evil spirit is to repent daily and ask God to protect us from all evil and the wiles of the devil,

Knowing the spirit of Jezebel

The Jezebel spirit is an unclean spirit that was behind the corruption of Ahab’s throne. She wanted to spread her power by marrying Ahab, and that led to the destruction of the Israelites. This was mainly due to her devotion to false gods such as Baal, who was a male deity who focused on power and sexuality, and Ashtaroth, who was a female goddess of fertility, love, and war.

The rituals that were performed on them were depraved and incited abominations and sexual practices, where materials of human nature and bestial elements were involved.

Faced with this apostasy, God acted and raised up the prophet Elijah, who challenged Ahab and exterminated the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. But Satan took place and raised spirits that attacked the church, among which he sent his messenger Jezebel to try to silence the prophetic voice of God. This woman was King Ahab’s wife, Jezebel.

At present we are also experiencing an apostasy, where the spirit of Jezebel is found among the children of God, the churches, leaders, among others. At this God has raised his people and is fighting the good fight.

This new generation will carry the spirit of Elijah and will be anointed so that the prophetic power is revealed, performing miracles and signs that demonstrate the majesty of our Lord. So we as believers faithful to God must be strengthened in faith to protect ourselves from any seducing spirit that comes to confuse us and divert us from Christ’s plans.
