Here are some examples of healing in the Bible:
1. Lazarus
I think the two greatest miracles were the incarnation of God, where the “Word was made flesh” (John 1:1-14), and the miracle of human conversion, where a heart of stone is regenerated into a heart of flesh so that it can be saved. Next to these two, I can’t think of a greatest healing miracle than the moment when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.
There are some interesting lessons in this chapter because Jesus doesn’t seem to care that Lazarus is dying. In fact, he is not in a hurry. This account takes place in the 11th chapter of John, where “a man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha” (John 11:1). Then the sisters sent to him, saying: “Lord, the one you love is sick.”
But when Jesus heard it, he said: “This disease does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it.” (John 11: 3- 4). Does Jesus leave immediately? No, because after Jesus heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed two more days in the place where he was (John 11:6).
When Jesus arrives, Martha approaches him and cries: “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died” (John 11:21). This is where the deepest teaching of Jesus comes from. He says: “He who believes in me, even if he dies, will live; and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die” (John 11:25-26). Later Jesus exclaims: “Lrandom, salt” (John 11:43). Lazarus is raised from the dead and God is glorified.
2. Leprosy
In the historical books of the Bible, like 2 Kings, we read about some miraculous healings, but we don’t often read about a pagan commander coming to a prophet of God for healing. That would require some humility, wouldn’t it? God was actually using Naaman, who was the commander of the army of the king of Syria.
This was a powerful man with formidable strength, and yet he must have loathed himself because of his leprosy. When the news reached the commander that there was a man of God in Israel who had miraculous powers, he went to the prophet; Elijah the prophet.
Naaman asked Elijah for help and Elijah told him, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh will be restored, and you will be clean” (2 Kings 5:9-10), but instead of doing this, Naaman became angry. and he went away, saying, “Behold, I thought he would surely come to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God.” Only after his servant reasoned with him did he relent.or, whereby he “descended and plunged seven times into the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child and he was clean. (2 Kings 5:14).
3. Bleeding
Another of the very famous examples of healing in the Bible is that of the woman with the issue of blood. One of the Jewish rulers approached Jesus in despair, because Jews who associated with Jesus would be thrown out of the synagogue, but the man was desperate and approached Jesus in broad daylight and “knelt down before him, saying:
“My daughter has just died, but come and put your hand on her, and she will live” (Matthew 9:18).
How amazing. Here was a ruler who believed in Jesus so completely that he knew that Jesus could raise his daughter from the dead. This could be one of the same rulers who would later be among those who would condemn Jesus at his trial that led to his crucifixion. Jesus, knowing all this, still went and “followed him with his disciples.” (Matthew 9:19).
Just as they were leaving, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the hem of his cloak because she said to herself: “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” Jesus turned and, seeing her, said: “Cheer up, daughter; your faith has healed you.” And immediately the woman was healed” (Matthew 9:20-22).
See how lovingly Jesus addresses this woman as “daughter,” displaying an intimacy few Jewish men ever displayed. More than that, her chronic condition was suddenly cured, but not only because she had the courage to approach Jesus, but because she also demonstrated that she had faith.
4. The lame
Of course, the story of the healing of the lame man is also a very good example of healing in the Bible. This story comes when “Peter and John went up to the temple at the time of prayer, the ninth hour. And they brought a man lame from birth, whom they placed every day at the door of the temple, to ask for alms from those who entered it.Acts 3:1-2).
He immediately started screaming for help, but the apostles had no silver or gold coins. However, what they had was bigger than that. Peter said:
“I don’t have silver or gold, but what I have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!” And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were strengthened (Acts 3:6-7). He couldn’t just walk, “he jumped up, stood up, started walking, and walked into the temple with them, walking, jumping, and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God. (Acts 3:8-10).
That miraculous healing was to the glory and praise of God, and the lame ex-man saw to it that God received his due glory.
How to hinder healing
Christians can hinder their own healing in at least four ways:
1. By not asking for it (James 4:2b)
In John 5:6-7, Jesus looked into the heart of a lame man and asked, “Do you want to get well?” A strange question for a man who had been lame for 38 years! Perhaps Jesus saw that he was reluctant because he was addicted to the attention and charity he received. Perhaps his limp was intertwined with his identity. Sometimes the Lord wants to heal us, but we haven’t bothered to ask Him!
2. By not surrendering to God’s purposes
The humility and willingness of believers to receive what God has for them helps them to cooperate with the truth of Romans 8:28-29. As believers pray for healing, they must believe that all things are somehow woven into the Father’s good and holy plan to conform them to the image of his Son.
3. For lack of faith
Lack of faith can get in the way of what God wants to do (Matthew 9:20-22; Matthew 9:29; Mark 6:5-6; Luke 17:19; Acts 3:16; James 5:15). He is more inclined to answer the prayers of faith in powerful, sometimes unexpected ways, as he did with Elijah in James 5:17-18.
5. Approaching God with timid prayers
Christians need to pray with confidence, trusting in the goodness and grace of God (Matthew 7:11), and pray with the conviction that God will reward those who persecute him (Hebrews 11:6).

Believers can hate sickness, just like God, while longing for the day when they will be safe in heaven from the ravages of pain and all diseases. However, according to God’s purpose, we will be healed or sent to rest until his next coming.
