SAMSON, A PURPOSE OF GOD (Devotional #037)

Devotional 037 (Pastors Gonzalo and Andrea Sanabria. Samson a purpose of God).
And the woman gave birth to a son, and she named him Samson. And the child grew, and Jehovah blessed him. And the Spirit of the Lord began to manifest itself in him in the camps of Dan, between Zora and Estaol“, Thu. 13:24-25.

Samson, a purpose of God.

By revelation from God, Manoah and his barren wife learn that she will become pregnant, and her child will be God’s instrument to begin saving Israel from Philistine oppression.

We also see cases like the prophet Jeremiah, like John the Baptist, in short all of us, because we are a purpose of God “as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him” (Eph. 1:4), that is why Samson was born in God’s time, in the family that corresponded to him, in the nation where God required it.
He was anointed from his teens. The Hebrew term for child in today’s passage is naar, which also translates young, youth, denotes an unmarried young man of marriageable age. The word “manifest” comes from a Hebrew term that means: to impel, to shake, tap.

The blessing of God, the witness of the Holy Ghost, and the anointing were with him, evidence of a special purpose. Samson experienced the supernatural power of God (Judges 14:5-6), imagine that experience “he tore the lion to pieces, by the power of the Holy Spirit, without having anything in his hand”, his joy must have been very great, because when God uses us with his power, our hearts rejoice.

Unfortunately, Samson neglected his true strength: consecration. Samson was a Nazirite (Judges 13:5). The word Nazirite means: separated, consecrated, prince, crown, they were dedicated to God and his service… it also implied abstention, because they did not drink wine or cider, they could not eat “unclean things”, that is, animals not allowed by the Law Without a doubt, this term makes us reflect on how consecrated we are to our God in a world like today’s.
Samson forgot his purpose in life: to save Israel from the Philistines. God had already expressed Samson’s reason for being, however over the years, he approached the women of the enemy people.

Until I reach the valley of Sorec, whose name means: red wine, because of the red grapes that were collected there and the wine that was produced (remember that the Nazirite could not drink wine… without a doubt, the atmosphere in the valley of Sorec does not it was for Samson), and adds the text “he fell in love with Delilah”, whose name means “flirtatious, fickle, capricious, light, inconstant.

God requires fidelity in his elect. Samson was a vessel where God had deposited his glory. The character holds the anointing, as the vessel holds the oil. The formation of a faithful character requires: Time, Formation (trials) and Instruction. Samson lost his sight, the Philistines gouged out his eyes (Judges 16:20-21).

God’s radiance on Samson could not shine as planned. Samson means “little sun”, when his parents gave him that name, they considered what the angel had told them, and their son would then be a beacon of hope in the midst of the crisis… Samson did not lose his “vision” when his eyes were removed. eyes, he had already lost her, and he judged with his natural eyes.
The sin of presumption is to trust in oneself. It is interesting that Paul told Timothy to “take care of yourself”, and Samson “He said to himself: This time I will go out like the others and I will escape. Paul by the Spirit said:I say, therefore, by the grace that is given to me, to everyone who is among you, that he think no more highly of himself than he ought to think, but that he think of himself soberly, according to the measure of faith that God distributed to each one”…

We cannot confuse: Power with integrity. Anointing with holiness. Blessing with approval, we must always depend on God. In jail and blind, Samson reflected a lot, and the Letter to the Hebrews (Heb. 11:32) presents him as a hero of faith, but his end was sad. God save us from our own mistakes.

Final reflection: We are a plan of God, called to win, we cannot forget that, it is necessary to persevere, remain faithful and allow God to be glorified. He has promised to give us the exit together with the temptation, he has promised to be with us, he will help us overcome, he only requires of us a fully willing heart to do his will, remember you are a purpose of God.
