Praise and Worship: Similarities and Differences in the Bible

In a true adoration and praise to our Lord we reflect with our life our love for Him. And it is that when we really know his presence our life becomes sacrifices and works to please Him, and that is love.

1 John 4:19 tells us that: “We love him, because he first loved us”, from the day we experience his love, there is nothing that fills our hearts more than making our Father smile.

Praise

Praise is understood as the action of celebrating with our own words something positive that makes our souls happy. For this fundamental reason, our praises are affirmations that exalt the power, the value, the virtue and the majesty of God. When praising we take the priority of describing, thanking and celebrating our Eternal God and his wonderful works, through songs, poems and prayers of fragrant smell to Him.

Worship

Worship is understood as a human instinct and spiritually necessary in every being. In a nutshell, worship is esteeming or honoring God with complete devotion. For adoration is the state of our spirit that implies the shock and humiliation of ourselves before God. By worshiping in spirit and in truth, your being is given to God, faithfully placing yourself at his disposal and fulfilling what was our main reason for being, creatures with God’s DNA who honored the Eternal Father.

praise in scripture

In the Hebrew language, the word “praise” comes from “להלל lehalel”, which actively means an act of Celebration to the Glory of something someone.

Praise is an act of exaltation to our Lord Jesus, and it is pleasing before Him. Praising also demands the surrender of our heart (Psalms 9:1 “I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders”); The word “praise” in Hebrew means: praise, give thanks or confess, it also means honor and praise, so a heart delivered to Him in gratitude, that is, a grateful heart even in the midst of difficulties is an act of praise to God (Psalms 100:4 “Enter his gates with thanksgiving; come into his courts with hymns of praise; give thanks, praise his name”).

Our Lord is the only one worthy of praise (Psalms 96:4 “For great is the Lord, and worthy of supreme praise; fearsome above all gods”); (Revelation 5:12 “who said with a loud voice: The Lamb that was slain is worthy to receive power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory and praise”).

worship in scripture

The meaning of the Greek word worship (proskuneo) includes “prostrate before” or kneel before “.

John 4:23-24 tells us that the Lord seeks true worshipers who worship Him in spirit and in truth, this means that the true worship of HIM originates within our hearts. Many people believe that to worship God is to go to church, raise our hands and worship with our mouths, when the Lord really seeks humble hearts before his presence, a heart that exalts him is a pleasant perfume towards Him. Our daily living has to be a constant adoration, because everything we feel in our hearts was part of our thoughts and that is what defines our daily actions, that is, our life, acts, (our living together) reflects if we are really worshiping him in spirit and in TRUE.

Our acts/actions (the external) reflect what is inside our heart (the internal), and the beginning of all this has to be love. Because God is not interested in masks: 1 John 4:11 “Love be without pretense. Hate the bad, follow the good” and this leads us to what I emphasized at the beginning, when we love him we always seek that our lives are pleasing to God and the Fear of God flows, Psalms 96:9 expresses “Worship Jehovah in the beauty of holiness; Fear before Him, all the earth”, let’s observe in John 14:15 that the Lord tells us “If you love me, keep my commandments”, He shows us that the formula of good works is love.
