But I will look to the LORD: These words are a pun on the text of v. Mic 7:4. While it was necessary to be a watchman for the coming of an enemy army, Micah was to be a watchman for the coming of the Lord.

BUT I WILL LOOK AT THE LORD. In the midst of a morally sick society, Micah put his faith in God and his promises. He knew that God would uphold him, that one day he would execute justice against all evil and cause justice to reign (v. Mic 7:9).

(1) God calls believers in Christ to live “in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation” and to shine “as lights in the world” (Phil 2:15).

(2) Although evil increases and society disintegrates, believers can offer God’s gift of salvation to all who are willing to listen, while praying and waiting for the day when He will set all things right (cf. .vv. Mic 7:15-20).
