Lot’s dishonor

The dishonorable end of this good man proves that we are never out of the woods while on earth. He whose righteous soul was grieved by the foul talk of the wicked, while he was in a city, is drawn into the same kind of evils when he dwells in a cave! His whole story, too, from the time he left Abraham, provides a poignant lesson to heads of families in choosing homes for themselves or their children. If worldly accommodations are preferred to religious advantages, we have nothing good, but everything bad to look forward to. We may or may not lose our substance as he did; but, what is of far greater importance, our families may be expected to become mere heathens, and our own minds polluted by the examples continually before our eyes. Such was the harvest that Lot reaped in his well-watered plain; And such are the fruits that are very commonly seen in those who reflect his example! (A. Fuller.)
