Mercy in the Bible refers above all to the constant, inexhaustible and faithful love of God for his people. God decided to offer us forgiveness instead of giving us the punishment we deserved for our sins. He sent his Son Jesus Christ into the world so that we might live through him (1 John 4:9). So great is his mercy!

In the same way, God calls his children to be merciful to others by treating them with love and compassion. This is possible thanks to the work of the Holy Spirit in us.
